IEBC announces date for Kibra constituency by-election

Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission has slated November 7 as the date for Kibra Constituency by-election.

This comes barely a week after , National Assembly Speaker Justin Muturi declared the seat vacant following the demise of Kibra MP Ken Okoth.

The Electoral body has asked political party seeking to fill candidates for the by elections to submit names of candidates participating in the primaries before August 26.

Candidates who will have successfully sailed through the primaries are expected to be listed by September 3 and given green light by the Returning officers between September 9 and 10.

IEBC has further ordered Public servants  intending to contest to resign within 7 days.

" Any public officer wishing to fill the position is required to resign from his or her position seven days of the declaration of the vacancy, " said IEBC chair Chebukati in the Kenya Gazette Notice

Independent candidates are expected to submit their names and symbols by August 26 and they are supposed to have not been member of any political parties for the past 3 months.

The seat vacant following the death of the area MP Ken Okoth who succumbed to Colorectal cancer on July 26  at The Nairobi Hospital.

Among front runners in the Mini Poll include former nominated senator Elizabeth Ongoro, ODM youth leader Benson Msungu and Okoth's brother Imran Okoth who is taunted as the best bet for the mini poll.
