MCAs shoot down the Punguza Mzigo Bill

It is another blow to the Punguza Mzigo Bill advanced by Dr. Ekuru Aukot of the Thirdway Alliance party as Kakamega County Assembly has shot down the proposed Constitutional amendment.

The Members of the County Assembly (MCAs) unanimously dismissed the Bill terming it unrealistic, retrogressive and impractical.

They were against the proposal to reduce the number of constituencies arguing it goes against the principle of fair representation.

The minority leader David Ndakwa cited Kakamega County which has 12 constituencies representing over 2 million people saying there was need for more in order to realize adequate representation.

The Bill proposes a reduction of the constituencies from 290 to 147.

The County Assembly joins Laikipia, Nyeri, Migori, Nyamira, West Pokot, Homa Bay, Siaya, Nairobi and Kirinyaga to reject the bill with only Uasin-Gishu supporting it.
