Governor assents to Finance Bill

Kisii Governor James Ongwae has signed this year’s Finance Bill, whose revenue collection target surpassed the previous one by Sh200 million.

And while signing the Sh550 million Bill passed by the County Assembly, Ongwae announced radical measures to actualize it.

The governor cited automated revenue collection system, a waiver, tax reduction on small businesses and an inventory on existing businesses to ease revenue collection.

However, he stated that the tax waiver given recently to boda boda transport, public service vehicles and property owners had a limitation period.

He said they should resume tax payment from November 6 to December 6, this year, or risk penalties.

The Governor said owing to current economic hardships facing the small scale businesses, transportation   tax was reduced from Sh20, 000 to Sh5, 000 but added it did not include tax charged on goods found within the County.

Ongwae said public participation helped to avert complaints raised during the previous Bills.
