Police cancel permits for parallel BBI meeting

Police have cancelled permits of the Anti Building Bridges Initiative rally Scheduled to be held at Mumias Sports grounds on Saturday.

The cancelled meeting was organized by National Assembly Majority Whip Benjamin Washiali to counter the other meeting hosted by the Kakamega Governor Wycliffe Oparanya.

Confirming the incident , Mumias West Police boss Peter Katam said Washiali's meeting was outlawed on security grounds.

" This is to notify you that this office has cancelled your permit to carry out the exercise purportedly scheduled to take place on 18th due to security reasons, " read the letter from the police boss .

The Mumias meeting was to be graced by Amani National Congress boss Musalia Mudavadi and Ford Kenya leader Moses Wetangula.

According to the organizers of the Mumias meeting at least 30 legislators from western Kenya region have expressed interest in attending the meeting.

The Oparanya led team is accused by the Washiali and other leaders of failing to involve them in the planning of the Bukhungu stadium meeting set for January 18 to popularise the BBI report.
