COVID-19 : Muturi, Lusaka take pay cut

National Assembly Speaker Justin Muturi and Senate Speaker Kenneth Lusaka will take a 30% pay cut for the next 3 months to support the fight against coronavirus.

Their declaration comes barely a day after President Uhuru Kenyatta and his Deputy President William Ruto announced they will be taking an 80% pay cut.

The senate speaker said MPs are also  in consultation on the same and once  they have agreed they will communicate to Kenyans.

With Presidential directive on proposal that need the parliament approval like the slashing of the Value Added Tax from 16% to 14% and the 100% tax relief for person earning Ksh 24,000 , Muturi said should there be a special sitting parliamentary staff will ensure parliament building is well-spaced to observe social distancing.

Lusaka said the senate will convene next week noting the minimum number of senators needed for the house to conduct business is 15 making it easy for the senate to observe the required social distance.
