LEAKED: President Kenyatta tells DP Ruto to resign in a one-paragraph letter

President Uhuru Kenyatta has written a letter to  William Ruto asking him to resign as Deputy President.

In a one Paragraph letter seen by our team, the Head Of State said in part, “for better service delivery to Kenyans, I hereby ask you to forward your resignation letter as Deputy President, with immediate effect, latest Wednesday at 5 PM.”

We have been following up to authenticate the letter with State House, and we will confirm once they pick our calls.

According to the law, the Deputy President has the liberty, provided for in law, to tender his resignation and thus render his office vacant.

Ruto can bow to the pressure of his boss and resign and the resignation shall take effect on the date and at the time specified in the notice to President Uhuru.

According to Article 148(7), in the event that the DP fails to indicate the timelines for his exit, his office shall fall vacant at the noon of the day after the notice is delivered.;

If DP Ruto resigns, the nation will be treated to a new political chapter, further complicating the already polluted water of BBI and national unity politics.

The constitution in Article 149 provides for that the President has only two weeks to get a replacement, subject to approval by the National Assembly.

The process has to be concluded within a period of 75 days.

The law prescribes that; "Within fourteen (14) days after a vacancy in the office of Deputy President arises, the President shall nominate a person to fill the vacancy, and the National Assembly shall vote on the nomination within sixty days after receiving it."

To add to that, this a polite reminder that today is April Fool’s Day. If I were you I would not take any of this seriously.
