Coronavirus: Kenya confirms 278 new cases as total soar to 5,811

Kenya has recorded 278 new cases of coronavirus this now brings the total number of cases in the country to 5,811.

Addressing the press on Saturday, Health Chief Administrative Secretary Dr Mercy Mwangangi  said the latest cases were from 4,074 samples tested in the last 24 hours and comprise of 276 Kenyans and 2 nationals.

Out of the 278, 181 were males whereas 97 were females all aged between 1 year and 84 years.


The cases are distributed as follows; Nairobi (171) Mombasa (37) Nakuru (17) Kiambu (12) Busia(10) Uasin Gishu( 9) Kajiado(4) Migori (3) Kericho (2) Machakos(2) Nandi(2) Trans Nzoia ( 2) Siaya(1) Taita Taveta( 1) Kwale (1) Kisumu(1) Makueni(1) Meru(1) and Vihiga (1).

At the same time, 31 more patients have been discharged from various health facilities raising the number of recoveries to 1,936.


The CAS further announced that four patients succumbed to the disease, this now brings the death toll to 141.
