Eight more deaths recorded as Kenya's COVID-19 cases surpass 9,000 mark

Eight more patients have succumbed to coronavirus in the country in the last 24 hours bringing the death toll to 181.

Addressing the press in Kilifi, Health Cabinet Secretary Mutahi Kagwe said one of those who succumbed to the virus was a medical doctor from Nairobi.

" We have today for the first time lost a medical doctor to the virus. I'm deeply saddened by this particularly because she contracted the virus while working to save the lives of others who had contracted the virus, " he said.

According to the CS, the doctor died at Aga Khan Hospital in Nairobi where she had been admitted on Monday.

" It's always painful when life is lost and even more painful when its a frontline worker and more so when it comes in the line of duty. On behalf of the government, I want to extend my heartfelt condolences to the family of the doctor, " 

The CS further announced that 473 more people had tested positive for the virus hence bringing the national tally to 9,448.

At the same time, 76 more patients have been discharged from various health facilities raising the number of recoveries to 2,734.
