Kitale youths hail government for Kazi Mtaani

Youths in Kitale have hailed the government for the kazi mtaani initiative that has uplifted their economic and social life.

The National Youth County chairman Lazarus Obul told KNA Thursday that the programme has reduced crime in informal settlement besides earning a living from the cash given to them.

“I live in slums myself and what am witnessing among my peers is wonderful…most youths are no longer idling and generally crime has reduced in the ghetto,” he said.

According to Obul, who is also part of the programme, most youths who have been recruited come home tired and have no time for engaging in vices such as drugs.

He asked the government to reconsider expanding the programme and also extending it to a longer period to engage the youths further.

The youth official advised them to invest in income generating programmes to sustain themselves when the programme ends.

The government will spend Sh 10 billion on the National hygiene programme. In Trans Nzoia over 4,000 youths have been recruited in the programme that will last six months.

The youths, mostly university graduates and teachers from private schools will be paid Sh 455 per day for 11 days in a month for six months.
