South Africa's COVID-19 cases surpass half a million

South Africa has confirmed 10,107 new coronavirus cases pushing the  Africa's most industrialised nation tally to 503,290, it's health ministry said on Saturday.

At least 3 million people have so far been tested for the virus in South Africa which confirmed its first COVID-19 in March and 8,153 fatalities have been reported.

South Africa has the fifth-highest number of cases in the world after the United States, Brazil, Russia and India.

The country's Western Cape Province still accounts for the highest number of COVID-19 related deaths with more than 3,000 fatalities recorded in the province

As of Saturday, 1st August Africa had confirmed 934, 558 coronavirus cases, 19,752 deaths and 585,567 recoveries, according to the Reuters tally.
