Governor Mvurya launches road project

KNA    Kwale Governor Salim Mvurya and his Deputy Fatuma Achani on Saturday launched the upgrading to bitumen standard of Kona Musa Mabokoni - Kona Masai Road in Ukunda Township, Kwale County.

The 6.336km tarmac road is set to open the road accessing Technical University of Mombasa (TUM) Kwale Campus at Mabokoni area in Ukunda.

During the launch, Mvurya said that his leadership together with his deputy was committed to making sure all road networks in Ukunda’s Diani Municipal Town and Kwale as a whole were upgraded to better standards.

“My administration has been in the forefront in making sure sustainable projects are initiated in every corner of the county, therefore the launching of Kona ya Jadini road and Mabokoni roads are a game changer in the region,” he said.

Mvurya said the project, which commenced in April this year, would be completed by April 15, 2021 and would cost Kwale County Government Sh277 million.

“The opening up of the interior of Kwale County facilitates a base for economic take off in these places. I urge citizens to continue to give us support as we continue with this development roadmap,” he said.

At the same time, Governor Mvurya launched the upgrading to bitumen standard of Kona ya Jadini - Lotfa Resort Road in Diani, Kwale County.

The 2.8 km tarmac road is set to open the road accessing Diani Beach as well as reducing congestion in the Diani municipality.

In his speech during the launch, Mvurya said that Diani is now a Municipal Town and that is why all roads in the area were being upgraded.

“Am happy to have transformed the lives of the people of Kwale which led my administration to be ranked second country wide and number one in the education sector,” said Mvurya.

“We are giving the Diani municipality the status it deserves by doing cabro roads and tarmacking,” he said.

He said the project by the County Government would costs Sh34 million also commenced last April and would run up to April, 2021.

During the launch, Mvurya was accompanied by county executive committee members for Roads and Infrastructure Hemedi Mwabudzo, Nasib Nyahi (Tourism), and Sylvia Chidodo (Public Service and Administration) and other county government officials.
