15 students arrested in Kijauri town, Nyamira County after sneaking out of school

KNA     Fifteen students from Mwongori secondary school in Borabu Sub County were arrested yesterday afternoon by police from Matutu police station in Kijauri town after sneaking out of the school compound.

The students, 11 boys and 4 girls, had entered into a rental house in Kijauri town, Borabu Sub County belonging to Joshua Okioga, 24, to shelter from rain but members of the public sensed that all was not well and swiftly locked the students from outside and immediately alerted the police.

Confirming the incident, Nyamira County commissioner, Amos Mariba confirmed to press today that the 15 students and two other non-students, Robert Ouko and Robert Misati were arrested and detained in Matutu police station.

“Police also recovered liquor of vodka type and rolls of cannabis sativa though upon investigation, the students were not drunk and the school principal confirmed that they sneaked out of the school compound as no one permitted them,” the county commissioner confirmed.

“The police will handle the non-students, as the students are dealt with by the school management,” Mariba commented,  adding, “I want to thank members of the public for being resourceful and swift in giving information as the students could have engaged in drug and substance abuse and further be sexually assaulted.”
