Nyamira Governor renew ECDE teachers contract

KNA      Nyamira Governor, Amos Nyaribo has renewed working contracts for 383 Early Childhood Development Education (ECDE) teachers serving in the County’s public schools.

Speaking to the press yesterday in his boardroom, Mr Nyaribo confirmed that his administration valued early childhood education and therefore resolved to renew the contracts for the teachers so they can resume work immediately. Contracts for first cohort of ECDE teachers expired in December 2019 and the second in December 2020.

"The County Public Service Board will start issuing the appointment letters on contract terms from tomorrow (today) for these teachers to resume duty immediately to help our children who are inadequately attended to due to lack of teachers," he added.

He said the contracts will last for three years as the County Public Service Board works on modalities to hire them on a permanent and pensionable basis.

He explained that each functional ECDE centre has been allocated a minimum of two teachers while those with more learners were assigned more tutors to better the teacher/learner ratio and avoid scenarios where teachers would be overwhelmed by the workload.

The Governor further assured all ECDE teachers who were not paid their gratuities totaling Sh20 million that they would be fully paid once the County Assembly approves the supplementary budget that will be presented before them immediately they report back to work from recess.

"The County department of education will further select three ECDE teachers from each ward to play a supervisory role to fellow colleagues to ensure they are imparting quality elementary education to our young ones in accordance with educations' Competence Based Curriculum (CBC) guidelines,” he added.
